Protect Yourself Against TEXT Spam!

Protect yourself against TEXT spam!

If you have a phone, chances are you have received a spam text. There’s a special form of spam text the cybercriminals use to trick victims into willfully giving up everything from their phone number to their Social Security number.

Smishing or SMS phishing scams are similar to your standard email phishing scam.
  • Smishing (SMS phishing) is a security attack in which the user is tricked into downloading a virus or other malware onto their cell phone or other mobile device.

When you receive a smishing text message, it will likely ask you to call a phone number, or, even worse, click on a link. This link will take you to a fraudulent website, but meant to make you think it’s from a reputable source such as your bank, wireless service provider or sometimes the Internal Revenue Service. Do NOT click on a link in a text message or respond to the text. If you provide them with personal information they can steal your information and take full control over some of your most private accounts.
